Today's Tidbits

"The Little Old Lady From Pasadena" was released by Jan & Dean on this day in 1964. I am pretty sure surfing aficionado's are still out there by the ton but aren't very well represented in today's music. Skater's had a music movement within the last twenty years but surfers seem to have been forgotten in the music world post 2000.

Sloppy Jim's

I took a little creative liberty with the name. This meal is self explanatory.

Today's Tidbit

My musical tastes are mostly rock based but they vary a lot as well. For the purposes of this blog I also enjoy nostalgia. On this day in 1975 Captain and Tennille started a 4 week run at No.1 on the US singles chart with "Love will keep us together". It was pretty common to hear this on the radio in the seventies. I'd never seen this video and it's pretty funny to watch. Enjoy!

Cookies!

It's not every day my wife makes cookies and she didn't want me to show the pictures of her earlier test batches of more "healthy diet cookies" but here are a few finished non health nut ones for display! All a heck of a lot better then she'd have you believe. I do believe that's dried cranberries, almond flakes and dark/white chocolate chips in there.

Steak Sandwiches

For all the father's out there who responsibly participated in raising their children have a happy father's day!! Nothing says fathers day better then steak! Here with some fresh ciabatta bread and regular small sub buns toasted golden brown. Garlic butter and monterey jack cheese melted in for good measure with butter grilled red peppers, mushrooms and caramelized onions on top. It felt like a shame cutting these beautiful steaks up like this but one bite of these tasty steak sandwiches cured that right quick.

Today's Tidbit

Lack of inspiration? Silly marketing strategy? Misguided idea? Either way on this day in 1972 Paul McCartney and the Wings released the nursery rhythm "Mary Had a Little Lamb" as a single. This is probably one people opted to forget, I know I had. Enjoy pondering it's existence.

Chicken Salad

After losing the Stanley cup the last thing that's needed tonight is a heavy meal!

Today's Tidbit

I predicted in April that Vancouver would win the Stanely cup. In the back of my mind I was hoping they would and that maybe by doing so there would also be no stupid riot aftermath. Well, the Canucks lost and the rioting is still going on at midnight. It's pretty much a global embarrassment I don't have much to say about it. This is the typical scene downtown now. Image, thanks to ctv.ca. I was all ready to throw Luongo in the fire but the truth is whether he let in 200 goals or zero goals nobody on the Canucks could score a single goal game 7. The entire team stepped away from the plate.

Today's Tidbit

On this day in 1975 the band America reached No.1 on the US singles chart with "Sister Golden Hair". It's a song I haven't heard in a while but definitely did grow up listening to it and do like it a lot. Enjoy yet another trip down musical memory lane over dinner tonight.

Macaroni & Meat Sauce with Tossed Salad

Sharp cheddar cheese instead of parmesan and different spicing made for a more beefy macaroni then a typical spaghetti. I suppose the older we get the less pasta we can eat. We all may as well dig in while we can!

Today's Tidbit

The quality of the video helped me decide what today's tidbit would be. In 1959 Chuck Berry released the album "Chuck Berry is on Top". This is a clip from the low-fi movie scene from "Go, Johnny, Go from the same year. It was blended with an hq recording so it's not an original mix.

The reality is this was really only a compilation album with just one new single entitled "Blues for Hawaiians". I couldn't find a Video or mention of that song on You Tube. It must not have been one of his more popular efforts, I'd never heard of it myself either.

Cheeseburgers

Just before the Vancouver Canucks win the cup sounds like a perfect time for cheeseburgers! With the UFC in town tonight and the Canucks huge win last night Vancouver is a sports mecca this weekend. Your too late to join this particular Canucks bandwagon. Last chance for that was when I officially predicted they'd win the cup with this All Aboard! post I made back on April 27th. Now dig in!

Today's Tidbit

There weren't a lot of No.1's on the charts I wanted to talk about today. However, on this day in 1978 Joe Walsh released "Life's Been Good".

1978 was a great year that brought us Rush's "All the Worlds a Stage" their answer to Led Zeppelin's song remains the same. I found it really was the last decade of some of that better rock music that took a huge nose dive in the disco era that followed and the bubble gum rock era that followed that. Other then a few key exceptions this is probably the last decade for decent song writing and serious stadium filling rock on the whole. I haven't forgotten the KISS or Van Halen's of the world but that 70's decade was still dishing out 60's era song crafting for the most part.

No video again this time just sound.

IMPORTANT

This post is here to show a few other ways that my blog can be viewed. There are some completely different styles that are often more modern looking as well. I prefer the default look but not everybody will, choices are always a good thing. Enjoy!

Today's Tidbit

On this day back in 1974 The Wings reached No.1 on the US singles chart with their musical effort entitled "Band on the Run". One of my all time favourites.

[The auto checker wants me to spell that as "favorites" the American way. I often will go along with these Americanized spelling corrections just to get rid of the red error line underneath, dropping more u's then I can count in the process. I.E. color vs colour in the process. This time I won't do that as it just looks plan wrong without the u! Canadians spell things straight from their original derivatives from the UK].

Spaghetti & Meatballs

I had a lot of pictures that were blurry or this would look even yummier then it already does. I"m going to need to start using my tripod soon.
